International Seminar (IC-ISLEH) Postgraduate UIN Malang 2024

Postgraduate Program of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang again held the 3rd IC-ISLEH International Conference for two days, namely October 15-16, 2024 with the theme “Redefining the Islamic Education in Light of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The 3rd IC-ISLEH International Conference was attended by 47 participants from 41 institutions from all over Indonesia and 6 foreign institutions, Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State Nigeria, Karabük University, Karabük, Türkiye, University College of Applied Sciences Ghaza, Al-Ahgaf University Mukalla Yemen, Al-Azhar University Cairo Egypt, Universite Mohammed V Rabat Morocco.

The IC-ISLEH International Conference aims to discuss and examine the role and contextualization of Islamic education in achieving sustainable development goals in Indonesia and the global context. In addition, this conference can increase the number of scientific publications of lecturers and students through international, national, and proceedings journals, and become a medium for realizing the International Recognition and Reputation campus of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang.

The 3rd IC-ISLEH conference presented Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zainul Hamdi as the keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Hj. Ilfi Nur Diana, M.Si, Prof. Greg Barton, Prof. Dr. Zabidi Abdul Razak, Prof. Dr. Bahrul Hayat, P.hd, and Badrus Sholeh, S.Ag., P.hd and was attended by the academic community from lecturers, Postgraduate students, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, and International Conference participants in order to disseminate their research results.

On the first day of the plenary session, Prof. Dr. Hj Ilfi Nur Diana discussed the role of State Islamic Religious Universities (PTKIN) in achieving SDGs. Based on the results of her research, efforts to achieve quality education and welfare carried out by higher education are in line with efforts to achieve the SDGs. SDGs at UIN Malang still dominantly target humanitarian issues. According to him, PTKIN can play a role in addressing environmental issues through the application of ecological approaches in all disciplines. Continuing the previous speaker, Prof. Greg Barton then discussed Islamic Education in Indonesia and its relation to SDGs. In his discussion, he briefly mentioned some research results on the steps of Islamic educational institutions to take a role in achieving SDGs such as the Green Pesantren Movement and the concept of revolutionizing the Islamic education curriculum in line with SDGs.

In line with the previous keynote speaker, Prof. Dr. Bahrul Hayat, P.hd reviewed how higher education, especially Islamic higher education, can join the global community and jointly instill sustainable development goals. Badrus Sholeh, S.Ag. as Education Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia then discussed SDGs in education, gender, and partnerships within the framework of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

The second day began with a plenary session agenda by two speakers, Prof. Dr. H. Wahidmurni, M.Pd as Director of Postgraduate Program of UIN Malang and Prof. Dr. Ahmad Zabidi Abdul Razak who is the Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Malaya Malaysia. The agenda continued with a parallel session where participants presented their research results. This parallel session is divided into 5 scientific fields namely language, law, Islamic studies, economics, and education. In this session, approximately 90 papers were presented and reviewed interactively in warm discussions between participants plus various constructive inputs from reviewers. This session became a forum for students and academics to not only write their research results but also present and discuss them with other academics.
