ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Master of Islamic Studies (S2 SI) program at the State Islamic University of Malang was established to meet the needs of teachers and the general public who wish to deepen their mastery of Islamic sciences related to Islamic history and civilization. The study of Islamic history and the diversity of Islamic civilization can accommodate the broad interests of students from various academic and general backgrounds.

The Master of Islamic Studies Program is committed to producing graduates who possess intellectual capacity, expertise, and personality that reflect the integration of Islam and science through research and development of Islamic knowledge.

VISION

To become a center of excellence for Islamic Studies based on research, innovation, and Ulul Albab values.

MISSION

  1. Providing integrative and interdisciplinary master's education in Islamic Studies, connecting classical and contemporary Islamic treasures with social approaches, humanities, and developments in science and technology, based on moderate Islamic values.
  2. Developing graduates as professional and competitive Islamic scholars, educators, researchers, and practitioners, possessing spiritual depth, intellectual breadth, and social sensitivity in responding to the dynamics of the global community and society.
  3. Encourage and develop critical, contextual, and applicable Islamic research, including studies of the Qur'an and Hadith, Islamic thought, Islamic law, Islamic education, and contemporary issues such as religious moderation, multiculturalism, and digital transformation.
  4. Building and strengthening national and international collaboration networks with universities, research institutions, the Ministry of Religion, socio-religious institutions, and global institutions in the context of scientific development, community service, and improving the quality of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Producing graduates who have a deep understanding of the theory, methodology, and approach to Islamic Studies, and are able to develop Islamic science through academic research, scientific publications, and innovative works that are relevant to the development of Islam and humanity (in line with Article 9 letter g of the Minister of Education and Science and Technology Regulation Number 39 of 2025).
  2. Producing graduates who are able to analyze, formulate, and implement Islamic thought and practice in a contextual, integrative manner, and based on the values ​​of the Qur'an, Hadith, and Islamic scientific traditions in responding to social, educational, legal, and cultural issues.
  3. Producing graduates who are responsive to local, national, and global needs, including PTKIN, Islamic boarding schools, madrasas, socio-religious institutions, government agencies, and the international academic community, with an orientation towards global research and publication quality standards (Scopus, SINTA, UNESCO).
  4. Improving access and equality of Islamic higher education through the implementation of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) which is inclusive, accountable, and oriented towards academic quality and learning outcomes of Master of Islamic Studies graduates.
