Malang, August 29, 2024 - Postgraduate Program of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University held orientation activities for new Master and Doctoral students by organizing a special workshop entitled “Academic Writing From Source”. This workshop is presented as an important prerequisite for students to hone scientific writing skills that are fundamental in their academic journey.
Opened by Prof. Dr. Wahid Murni, M.Pd., Ak., the workshop presented Dr. Imam Wahyudi Karimullah, SS, M.Ed as the keynote speaker. Dr. Imam, who is also an alumnus of Michigan State University, shared effective academic writing techniques and methods, ranging from writing structure to developing strong arguments.
“The ability to write is not only about conveying ideas, but also as a critical tool to explore and expand knowledge,” said Dr. Imam in his session. He emphasized the importance of a deep understanding of the guidelines for writing scientific papers that have been set by the university.
Prof. Wahid Murni in his speech reminded the new students that the academic process is a marathon, not a sprint. “Writing is an integral part of your academic journey. Do not be tempted by instant results, but enjoy every learning process that will enrich your experience and knowledge,” said Prof. Wahid.
In addition to theoretical sessions, the workshop also provided practical sessions where students were invited to write introduction paragraphs and thesis statements directly. This provides an opportunity for them to directly apply the knowledge they have learned and get constructive feedback.
With this workshop, Postgraduate UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang hopes that all new students can start their academic journey with a strong foundation in scientific writing, which will be very useful in writing their theses and dissertations in the future. This activity is also part of the university's efforts to improve the quality of graduates who are not only superior in theory, but also proficient in scientific practice. (LF & HT)
