The Doctoral Program in Islamic Studies is one of fourteen study programs managed by the Postgraduate Program at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) Malang. The program's founding stemmed from a visionary idea. Prof. Dr. Hj. Umi Sumbulah as Director of Postgraduate Studies, together with Drs. Basri, M.A., Ph.D. (Deputy Director), with the support of Islamic studies experts from UIN Malang such as Prof. Dr. Hj. Tutik Hamidah, M.Ag., Prof. Dr. H. Roibin, M.HI., Prof. Dr. H. Ahmad Barizi, M.A., as well as other academic teams.
The birth of the Islamic Studies Doctoral Program is a manifestation of the university's noble ideals to contribute to the development of human civilization through the practice of the values ​​of divinity, humanity, unity, peace, justice, and local wisdom of the archipelago that are in harmony with the principles of Islamic teachings.
Institutionally, the Islamic Studies Doctoral Study Program is the sixth doctoral program launched along with the establishment of the Postgraduate program, as regulated in the Decree of the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Number 199 of 2022 concerning the Permit to Organize Study Programs for the Islamic Studies Doctoral Program at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.
Discovering and promoting integrative Islamic Studies scholarship in combining science and Indonesian Islam through an inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary approach with an international reputation.
Producing original and tested scientific works in the field of Islamic Studies published in internationally reputable journals.
